Two days, one set lunch, then the kitchen breaks for summer
Caractère, the Michelin-starred dining room in a former Notting Hill pub, is signing off for its summer holidays in style. On Friday 14 and Saturday 15 August it runs one last special set lunch: canapés, three courses and two glasses of wine chosen by the sommelier, then coffee and petits fours, all in for £69.
The menu is a proper send-off. A chilled gazpacho with lobster, capers and cherry tomatoes, roast salmon with a ragout of courgette, potatoes, celeriac and roe in beurre blanc, and a raspberry île flottante to finish. There are only 40 seats each lunch and it is first come, first served, so book direct with the restaurant sooner rather than later.

Beyond the August special, Caractère is one of the loveliest lunches in west London any weekend of the year. The year-round set lunch runs every Friday and Saturday from midday to 1.45pm: three courses for £65, moving through the likes of celeriac cacio e pepe, steamed cod with stuffed mussels and a 75% Peruvian chocolate dessert. The August lunches will go quickly. The Friday and Saturday set lunch, though, is on All Set all year round.
