Bread Street Kitchen & Bar, Limehouse: £27 for three courses overlooking the Thames

Two courses £22 or three for £27, Monday to Friday until 6pm

Set beside the Thames in Limehouse, Bread Street Kitchen & Bar brings together a riverside setting, a light-filled dining room and a seasonal set menu that makes a three-course lunch particularly good value at £27.

We visited for the weekday set menu, which is available Monday to Friday until 6pm at £22 for two courses or £27 for three. There’s a choice of three starters, four mains and three desserts, with plenty to choose from whether you’re after something light, something hearty or a classic pudding to finish.

The restaurant sits within a Grade II-listed building, with the dining room opening out towards the river through its glazed conservatory. Across the Thames, Canary Wharf provides the backdrop, while the terrace gives you the option of dining outside when the weather allows.

Lunch by the Thames

The conservatory is bright and spacious, with a pitched glass roof, black steel framing and plenty of greenery around the room. Marble tables sit alongside green banquettes, with views towards the river and Canary Wharf beyond.

It’s a lovely setting for a long lunch, particularly during the daytime when natural light fills the space. The terrace runs alongside the river too, adding another option for warmer days.

What we ate

There’s a good spread of options across the three courses, starting with the beer battered cod and haddock bites, served with lemon and herbed tartare sauce. The batter is crisp and light, with the fish inside staying tender.

The crispy duck leg bao are another standout choice, with shredded duck, hoisin, cucumber and spring onions tucked into soft steamed buns.

For something lighter, the BSK poke bowl combines sushi rice and quinoa with mango, radish, edamame and wakame, alongside chilli and garlic-marinated tofu.

For mains, the grilled flat iron steak comes with fries and peppercorn sauce, while the steamed sea bream is served with sautéed spinach and red pepper tapenade, finished with lemon zest and watercress.

The mains also include a double smash burger with an onion ring, pickles, American cheese and mustard mayo, served with fries, alongside an heirloom tomato salad with hummus, crispy chickpeas, grilled bread and sumac.

For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding is served warm with milk ice cream, while the vanilla panna cotta comes with macerated strawberries, basil and shortbread.
