Seven fresh reasons to stay north of the river
North London, we hear you. We've been filling in the map north of the river, and seven new set menus have just landed in the app. Neighbourhood pubs, Primrose Hill institutions and a little corner of Paris on Muswell Hill Broadway, all independent, all local favourites, all with a proper fixed-price menu.
Prices start at £13.50 for two courses in Camden and run up to a full Islington Sunday roast, so there's a sunny table here for every kind of afternoon. Here are all seven, made for the sort of long summer lunch that quietly turns into an evening.
01 · The Flask
Highgate
Prix fixe in one of London's prettiest pub courtyards, £18.95 to £22.95.
The Flask has been part of Highgate since the 1660s, and its walled courtyard is one of the loveliest places to eat outside in North London. The Prix Fixe is £18.95 for two courses or £22.95 for three, Monday to Friday from 11am to 5pm, running to heritage tomatoes with goat's curd, pan-roasted salmon and a BBQ pineapple with coconut sorbet. A proper summer lunch under the trees.
02 · Michael Nadra
Primrose Hill
A sunlit glass-roofed room off Regent’s Park Road, two courses £29.
Just off Regent's Park Road, the brasserie sits under a bright glass roof that turns lunch into a proper occasion. The set lunch is £29 for two courses or £35 for three, Wednesday to Friday from 12pm to 5pm, with a vivid Greek salad, steamed skate wings and a classic Eton mess. Polished cooking in one of Primrose Hill's sunniest rooms.
03 · Lemonia
Primrose Hill
The green-awninged Primrose Hill Greek institution, three courses £28.75.
Lemonia has been the heart of Primrose Hill for decades, all green awnings, terracotta and pavement tables that fill the moment the sun's out. The three-course set dinner is £28.75, Monday to Thursday, built around grilled sardines, fresh grilled swordfish and a plate of fresh mango to finish. The neighbourhood classic that never lets you down.
04 · La Petite Colline
Muswell Hill
A little corner of Paris on the Broadway, £16.95 to £18.95.
A traditional French room on Muswell Hill Broadway that feels transplanted straight from a Paris side street. Le Déjeuner is £16.95 for two courses or £18.95 for three, available daily from 12pm to 5pm (a couple of pounds more at weekends), with steak tartare, grilled sea bass and a proper crème brûlée. Some of the best-value French cooking in North London.
05 · Andromeda
Camden Town
A modern Greek taverna where lunch stays under £14, two courses £13.50.
Tucked on Plender Street in Camden Town, Andromeda is a warm modern Greek taverna doing the sort of lunch that's almost too cheap to believe. Two courses are £13.50, served daily from 12pm to 3pm, with a table of cool mezze (taramosalata, tzatziki, dolmades) followed by char-grilled kebabs or a bubbling moussaka. The lowest-priced lunch on the list, and one of the friendliest.
06 · Rotunda
King's Cross
Farm-to-table grill on the canal at Kings Place, two courses £18 / three £24.
Down on the canal at Kings Place, Rotunda cooks British produce from its own Northumberland farm, with a waterside terrace made for a sunny lunch. The set menu is £18 for two courses or £24 for three, weekdays from 12pm to 4pm. About as close to the source as farm-to-table gets in central-ish London.

Islington
An Islington Sunday roast worth the walk, two courses £32 / three £39.
On Essex Road, Salut turns Sunday into an event with a market-led roast that changes with the season. The Sunday Lunch set is £32 for two courses or £39 for three, served from 12pm to 4pm, with mains piled up with duck-fat roasties, seasonal vegetables and a proper Yorkshire pudding. The grown-up Islington Sunday you'll want to make a habit of.
